Getting Started
Not at all. Krav Maga classes are self-paced — people from all walks of life with no exercise history start right away. Our classes are designed to challenge a first-timer right alongside a trained athlete. Everyone is allowed to stop and rest during any drill or warm-up. We’re here to teach you self-defense and motivate you along the way — the fitness follows naturally.
Comfortable training clothes — gym shorts, yoga pants, a t-shirt, sports bra, breathable socks. You want to stay cool and move freely.

Athletic shoes — a solid pair with proper foot support. The right shoes protect your knees, ankles, and back through the footwork-heavy drills we run.
Very little to start.

Water bottle — hydration is non-negotiable. We have fill stations on site.

Groin protection — required for men, optional for women.

Gloves and shin guards — once you move into the intermediate program. We’ll let you know when and what to get.
Classes are 60 minutes, interval-style. Here’s how a typical class runs:

Warm-up (10 min) — calisthenics and movement prep, building to a light sweat. Self-paced throughout.

Instruction — striking mechanics relevant to the day’s self-defense lesson.

Drill — elevated pressure training on the first technique. Motivating but self-paced.

Instruction — a self-defense scenario (choke defense, bearhug, takedown, etc.).

Drill — putting the lessons together, adding stress inoculation elements.

This pattern may repeat depending on the complexity of the techniques covered that day.
We keep class sizes intentionally small. Average classes run 8–20 students. Once a class consistently draws 24 or more, we add sessions to the schedule to keep the quality of instruction where it needs to be. You won’t get lost in a crowd here.
Group classes are available for ages 14 and up. For ages 10–13, we offer private lessons built around your child’s specific goals — bullying situations, confidence building, abduction defense. We’ll work with you directly to develop a training plan that fits your child’s needs and pace.
Training & Progress
Yes. There are six belt levels in Krav Maga. Belts aren’t worn during class, but the progression is structured and meaningful. After training at each level for the required time, you check with your instructor to see if you’re ready to test. There’s always a Test Review first — then the belt test, usually a week apart.
Most students feel meaningfully more capable within the first 30 days. Real proficiency — the kind that holds up under pressure — comes with consistent training over several months. We recommend 2–3 classes per week for optimal progression. Students serious about protecting themselves and their families often train for 12 months or longer, and the growth never really stops.
Krav Maga was built in an environment where there was no time for prolonged training — the Israeli military needed people capable quickly. So the system was engineered for fast, high-level competency with minimal training time.

No katas. No competition. No rules. Everything goes when you’re fighting for your life. Where most martial arts train for sport or tradition, Krav Maga trains for survival — against armed and unarmed attackers, in real environments, under real stress.
Most people do — until they train. The freeze response is biological, not a character flaw. We train stress inoculation from early on — putting students under controlled pressure so the nervous system learns to stay functional when adrenaline hits. Over time, that training rewires the default response from freeze to act.
That’s exactly the right instinct — and Krav Maga trains for it. Our goal is simple: go home safe. Training builds awareness, sound decision-making, and reliable skills so that physical action is always a last resort, not a first response. Most of what we teach is designed to help you avoid, de-escalate, and escape before a fight ever starts.
Membership & Cost
We offer four membership tiers starting at $125/month. Every membership includes unlimited access to the weekly class schedule. Higher tiers add private coaching, personalized training plans, and seminar access.

We are not the cheapest option in town — and we won’t pretend to be. If you’re looking for the best self-defense training in East Texas at a fair price, see the full breakdown here.
Every membership includes unlimited classes. We suggest 2–3 per week for optimal progression, but there’s no cap. With sessions available Monday through Saturday across morning, evening, and weekend time slots, it’s easy to build a schedule that fits your life.
We don’t offer punch cards. Krav Maga is a skill — and skills require consistent repetition to develop. Showing up a few times a month won’t make you more capable under pressure. It reflects poorly on us and does a disservice to you. Our membership model is built around the training frequency that actually produces results.
Every instructor at ETKM is certified — no exceptions. Our owner has been tasked with training and certifying instructors internationally for some of the largest Krav Maga organizations in the world. To maintain complete objectivity, ETKM instructors are tested and graded by outside organizations — not by us. Far too many schools hand certificates to their best students and put them in front of a class. You won’t find that here.
